Hello, friends! I hope you're having a really good week. This is a Q&A episode with two really important questions. The first one talks about a suicide attempt in a non-graphic way. I wanted to let you know that off the bat so you can be aware going into it. Nothing intense or visually striking, but potentially triggering nonetheless.

Questions for this episode:

  • I had a suicide attempt that everyone thinks was an accidental overdose. Do I need to tell my family the truth?
  • I have severe bipolar 1 and I have always wanted to become a psychologist and do therapy. Is this possible?

As always you can send me your questions to duffthepsych@gmail.com and if you'd like to see the full show notes head over to duffthepsych.com/episode244

Hello, friends! Sorry in advance that the audio is a tiny bit blown out in this one. Hopefully you don't notice, but something weird was going on with my audio interface.

ANYWAYS... got a great episode here for you today. Two questions that I felt somewhat underqualified to answer, as a man, but they were too good not to share. The questions are:

  • I am realizing that I am more gay than I thought. How can I explore this in the context of my long-term heterosexual relationship?
  • Between a new baby and COVID, my anxiety is getting terrible. What can I do?

As always, you can send me your questions to duffthepsych@gmail.com and if you'd like to see the full show notes, check out duffthepsych.com/episode243!

Mar 5, 2021

Hello, friends! In this episode, I take a few shorter questions covering some amazing topics such as:

  • Will my psychiatrist or therapist drop me for not getting better fast enough?
  • What can I do about financial and job insecurity during COVID?
  • How can I balance working on myself and giving space during a break from my relationship?

As always, you can send me your questions to duffthepsych@gmail.com and if you'd like to see full show notes check out duffthepsych.com/episode242

I have to be honest with you all that this is not the most inspiring episode of the podcast. There is a lot of venting of frustration and fears. We also talk about suicidality, so please be aware of that. It's always important to me that we are REAL on this show. It would be unfair of me to give you the impression that the mental health system is perfect. As someone who works in the field and as a family that has been in the thick of navigating it, we definitely have some frustrations.

In this episode, we talk about operating with the current state of the world, Joelle's recent voluntary psychiatric hospitalization, and how we have had to try something like 6 or 7 times to find a psychiatrist to help with Joelle's meds. Despite the frustrations discussed, there are some good takeaways. Joelle is currently much more stable. She is no longer in her deep depressive episode and is no longer suicidal. We are currently finding a balance in our life that is working really well.

If you have questions or suggestions for future topics, please send them over to duffthepsych@gmail.com and if you would like to learn more about my clinical services, head over to robertduffphd.com

  • Boundaries
  • Waking up early
  • Coldbrew
  • Verbal journaling
  • Exercising
  • Audiobooks
